Finally! We get to the part of Ron's story that made Nathan's life possible—how he met his mother. Ron recounts admiring Susan from afar before a chance ride home together in a carpool from ECU. He also reveals how he almost blew it early on before making a recovery that led to engagement and marriage. Dad makes the big journey from rural North Carolina to East Carolina University. He quickly makes a small group of friends to survive the homesickness and ends up thriving in his college life. We talk about how work-study prepared him for the real world and how to survive off food prepared in a popcorn popper. 

A packed episode! Ron recounts his family moving from Broadway to the family farm when he was 12 and having to go from Broadway school to Boone Trail School. He talks about the teachers and friends who influenced him for the rest of his life and the change in perspective he felt when schools were integrated and when President Kennedy was killed. And we can't forget Bucky Boy.

For our first ever Bonus Episode I welcome Emily Sloan, my wife and soon to be mother of our first child. Together we try to remember all the important details about the pregnancy journey before the details start to slip away. We also record a message to our son, should he every listen back, and talk about how we feel in our last week before officially becoming parents.
